| When you're rising as fast as EBC has, the occasional reality check
can be beneficial. Founder Gary Wang has committed himself and EBC
to helping the disadvantaged through the establishment of a pair of
foundations, Eastern Charity Foundation and Eastern Culture Foundation.
EBC allocates a percentage of its net profits to worthy causes sponsored
by these foundations.
Eastern Culture Foundation sponsors events that promote cross-cultural
understanding, in part to help Taiwan come to grips with a rising
tide of immigration, and also to help heal the wounds of a cross-strait
rift that has lasted more than half a century.
In a few short years, Eastern Charity Foundation has already helped
more than 10,000 needy students by providing scholarships that reduce
the risk that they might slip through the cracks and become unfortunate
statistics.
