| Maintain Excellence; Launch A New Dream |
In 1997, Rebar-Union Telecommunications Company was renamed Eastern
Broadcasting Company and the world's leading global media brand, ETTV,
was born. It also marked the inception of the ideal that, at EBC,
you can realize your potential as long as you have talent and vision.
From this key moment of transition in our business operations onward,
EBC's reputation and revenues have risen sharply.
About six years ago, I joined EBC's predecessor company after having
worked at a commercial TV station and a public TV station, as well
as Taiwan's media regulatory authority, the Government Information
Office. At EBC, I worked my way up from programming division assistant
vice president, public relations vice president, news division vice
president, and media business senior vice president, to my current
position of president in 2001. Throughout these years, I have witnessed
the remarkable growth of the company.
ETTV has moved beyond conventional approaches by integrating its news
resources into a central news desk to serve all EBC-operated media,
and has built a content platform featuring news, children's education,
variety, entertainment and movie programming that assures professional
quality. EBC has also set up its ETToday news website and ETFM radio
network to maximize cross-media effectiveness and maintain its leading
position in Taiwan.
Despite the recent economic downturn, EBC's advertising revenues have
continued to grow. The company is now its own greatest competitor
in topping previous revenue growth results, which, despite continued
growth, have not led to complacency. Since Taiwan's accession to the
WTO, EBC has aggressively engaged in global media exchanges to enhance
its international profile. Currently, ETTV programs are available
throughout the Americas, China, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New
Zealand. The short-term goal for the development of our ETTV international
channels is to make them available in DTH and CATV markets around
the world.
EBC's corporate philosophy is to insist on the highest quality and
maintain a leadership position. We will continue making every effort
to be the foremost Chinese-speaking medium in the world.
